United Nations Seminar

Get a firsthand view of world politics

Since 1996, international studies faculty have facilitated the United Nations Seminar, an annual program that allows students to embark on a unique academic experience within a nontraditional learning environment while earning course credit.

The United Nations Seminar gives students the opportunity to get a firsthand view of the role of the United Nations in world politics at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Students receive briefings from United Nations officials on peacekeeping, refugees, human rights, sustainable development and many other topics. Students also meet with UN mission representatives. In the past, our students have met with diplomats from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, Iran, Iraq, India, Pakistan, Japan, Israel, Palestine, Tanzania, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and many other nations.

For more information on this program, please contact Gratzia Villarroel.

  • If you want it and work hard enough toward it, things will fall into place. But you have to work for it. That’s something my parents instilled in me – that “if you want it, you have to get it” work ethic. And if you ever feel alone or scared, don’t be afraid to ask questions or reach out, because so many people are willing to go out of their way to help. The Norbertine ideal of communio is real. People love you and care for you here like you’re their own, and it’s just so welcoming. It was bittersweet to leave!
