Senior Green Knights Smash School Record for All-Academics

Seven Green Knight seniors have been named All-Academic, smashing the previous college record for honorees in one class.

All seven track-and-field women finished in the top 50 nationally in their events – a requirement for the All-Academic designation granted by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

What’s more, these St. Norbert athletes showed the necessary academic chops, each earning a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.

In prior years, it was something to be celebrated if a handful of students were nominated from all classes, first-year through senior, says head coach Don Augustine. It is an extraordinary achievement to see seven All-Academics from one class.

This year’s SNC Track & Field All-Academic nominations from the Indoor season were:

  • Erin Artz ’17, who finished ranked 9 in the nation in the 5,000-meter run.
  • Brittany Kozlowski ’17, who finished ranked 2 nationally in the 800-meter run.
  • Samantha Morateck ’17, who finished ranked 10 in the nation in the high jump at the indoor national meet.
  • Haley Joosten ’17, who finished ranked 15 in the nation in the 800-meter run.

Nominations from the Outdoor season were:

  • Mallory Nickerson ’17, who finished ranked 24 nationally in the discus.
  • Clarissa Jauregui ’17, who finished ranked 30 nationally in the 800-meter run.
  • Erin Lang ’17, who finished ranked 36 nationally in the heptathlon.
Two additional members of the team, outside of the senior class, also qualified for the recognition: Taylor Domro ’18, who finished 8th overall in the 1500-meter run, and Kristina Herman ’19, who finished the outdoor season ranked 39 in the shot put.

Augustine says: “I think the expectation level has increased now because of the senior class that we just had. I think a lot more girls are motivated to try to get to the national level knowing that their teammates have done it.

“I just think it’s a testament to the student-athlete. They constantly talk about, in Division III, the importance of balancing both academics and athletics; so to have that big of a group meeting both the criteria of being ranked nationally because they’re really good at the sport, but also having a phenomenal GPA – I think says a lot.”
