Daniel Heiser Named New Dean of Schneider School of Business & Economics

Daniel Heiser, chair of the department of management and entrepreneurship at DePaul University, will be the next dean of the Schneider School of Business & Economics at St. Norbert. He joins the college on Monday, July 1.

“Dr. Heiser’s extensive administrative experiences and commitment to liberal arts education made him stand out among an international pool of strong candidates,” says Jennifer Bonds-Raacke, incoming vice president for academic affairs.

As dean of the Schneider School of Business & Economics, Heiser will oversee the undergraduate experience, the Master of Business Administration program, the Center for Exceptional Leadership, the Center for Business & Economic Analysis and the Strategic Research Institute.

“I am thrilled and humbled to join St. Norbert College’s mission-driven community as dean of the Donald J. Schneider School of Business & Economics,” Heiser says. “I’m eager to work with the school’s faculty and staff to build on past success and prepare our students as lifelong learners for the rapidly changing work environment they’ll face upon graduation.”

As chair of the department of management and entrepreneurship at DePaul University the past three years, Heiser oversaw the budget, management and scheduling for 31 full-time and 42 adjunct faculty. He was also responsible for the oversight of the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center, the Management Development Center, six master’s programs and two undergraduate majors at DePaul.

After receiving his J.D. and Ph.D. from Indiana University, Heiser began to teach and research supply chain management. He has lectured and consulted on supply chain management and project management in many countries, including Bahrain, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, the Philippines, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. His supply chain research has also appeared in several journals.

Before entering academia, Heiser was an attorney in private practice; an administrative law judge for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission; clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal; an advisor to the majority caucus of the Indiana State Senate; legal adviser to Richard Riley, U.S. secretary of education during the Bill Clinton administration; and legal advisor to Lamar Alexander, U.S. secretary of education during the George H.W. Bush administration.

Heiser succeeds Dave Wegge (Political Science, Emeritus), who joined the faculty in 1979. Wegge has served as the interim dean of the Schneider School for the past two years.
